Japan equips 14 weather stations
The Embassy of Japan has donated 14 fully equipped weather stations. The US$2.5 million donation will be used to measure weather conditions in 14 locations nationwide. The donation was made to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) yesterday, Wednesday 10 February 2016. Director Gloria Ceballos received the donation on behalf of the Dominican weather service. The stations are equipped with barometers, anemometers, rain gauges, thermometers, hygrometers and solar power systems to ensure the transmission of weather information collected by the devices. The devices will measure weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and ultraviolet radiation.
Ceballos said that the new equipment would also help in disaster planning and prevention.
