Icon Dominican capital hotel to get US$40M for redo
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.- Barceló hotel chain plans to spend more than US$40 million (RD$1.8 billion) to remodel its hotel El Embajador, considered Dominican Republic’s first luxury lodging and one of the capital city’s icons.
Deputy Tourism minister Radhames Martinez Aponte, who made the announcement at the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange DATE 2016, being held this week in Bavaro, Punta Cana (east), said the social areas and the historic facility’s 289 rooms will be renovated.
With six decades of history, the Occidental Hotel El Embajador was subjected to extensive remodeling in 1998. It’s located in the city’s upscale Bella Vista sector, where it was inaugurated in February, 1956.
