Hurricane season starts today
The Atlantic Hurricane Season starts today, Wednesday 1 June 2016 and will end on 30 November.
According to Philip Klotzbach and a group of experts at the University of Colorado, there will be 13 named storms of which six will reach hurricane status and two will be strong hurricanes on the Saffir Simpson scale.
This year more hurricanes have been forecast compared to last year and according to National Meteorological Office (Onamet) director Gloria Ceballos, a major hurricane could hit the country this year.
The names of the hurricanes and tropical storms for 2016 are Alex, Bonnie, Colin, Danielle, Earl, Fiona, Gaston, Hermine, Ian, Julia, Karl, Lisa, Matthew, Nicole, Otto, Paula, Richard, Shary, Tobias, Virginie and Walter.
