How many guns ‘assigned’ to civilians, Police Chief doesn’t know
Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Nelson Peguero on Monday said all cases of civilians who’ve been assigned a weapon by police via the so-called “Formulario 25″ will be reviewed, and revealed that he doesn’t know how many such guns are in citizens hands.
Peguero’s announcement comes just three days after former Santo Domingo State University (UASD) dean and San Cristobal senatorial candidate Mateo Aquino was gunned down with a pistol “assigned” to the powerful truckers’ union leader Blas Peralta.
The official said there’ll be a thorough review of the Formulario 25 and of those who seek to qualify for a permit to carry an assigned handgun.
He said he doesn’t know how many guns the Police have assigned through the document, but noted that Peralta’s gun was issued in 2006 during the tenure of former chief Bernardo Santana.
