Hoverboards for sale in Santo Domingo
The fashionable self-balancing scooter that is steered with the feet, better known as the Hoverboard, is now for sale in the Dominican Republic. Promoted as “smart wheel” the boards are being introduced at 30-day introductory prices of RD$13,500, including ITBIS for the 6.5 inch version, and RD$14,500 with bluetooth. They are being sold in red, white, black and blue. An eight-inch version sells for RD$14,500 and RD$16,500 with bluetooth. The regular lowest price is promoted as RD$18,000. The board is available at Alta Senal on the first floor of Plaza Andalucia, on Av. Abraham Lincoln at the intersection with Av. Gustavo Mejia Ricart. It is also for sale at Av. Duarte No. 50 almost corner Av. Mexico in Santo Domingo. In Santo Domingo East it is for sale at Av. Charles de Gaulle10 near the Carretera Mella. In San Cristobal, it can be purchased at Av. Constitucion No. 96 at the intersection with Calle Sanchez.
The board is controversial. CNET warns that there have been reports of hoverboard-type scooters exploding when faulty lithium batteries overheat. Proper safety gear is recommended (helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards) to reduce injury risk.
