According to Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) president Simon Suarez, the hotel sector in Santo Domingo is booming, as reflected by the construction of major hotels in the city and high occupancy levels during January.
Speaking to Hoy newspaper, Suarez attributed the increase to the confidence and optimism prevailing throughout the business sector nationwide, the expansion of tourism, with Santo Domingo being one of the cities experiencing dynamic hotel and tourism complementary services construction.
He said that 95% of foreign visitors to the capital came on business and that there is room to explore other market segments. He stressed the time was ripe to promote Santo Domingo as the meeting and conference destination that people have often talked about and that now with the new constructions is becoming a reality.
