Haitians clash with Immigration patrol in East region
Santo Domingo.- A group of several dozen Haitians clashed with Immigration Agency inspectors Wednesday morning, during a patrol in the Tourist Boulevard of the East, La Altagracia province, diariolibre.com reports.
The Haitians apparently construction workers were on a truck traveling from Bavaro to Uvero Alto, where the men hurled stones at the inspectors, unleashing a ruckus for around 25 minutes, affecting local and tourist traffic.
As the melee ensued, a group of undocumented Haitians detained inside an Immigration bus broke the windows and fled.
National and Tourism police officers arrived as backups for Immigration’s sweep and to apprehend the aggressors and escapees, near the Haitian slum of Hoyo de Friusa.
Around a dozen Haitians were arrested but a large group managed to escape into the bushes.
