Grace period to renew firearms licenses
The Ministry of Interior and Police (MIP) is giving firearm holders a grace period from 1 July to 1 August 2016 to renew licenses that are up to two years expired. The penalties will not be charged, and holders need to only pay the taxes that would have been due at any branch of the Banco de Reservas.
To renew the licenses, firearm holders also need to take and pass the anti-doping test at laboratories authorized by the MIP, and enter their ballistic and biometric data at the Laboratorio Balistico del Sistema Nacional de Armas, located at Av. Mexico 66, almost corner Maximo Gomez.
Once the required documents are presented, if approved the license will be available in 48 hours. Those that do not renew their permits are subject to these being seized and their licenses cancelled, as ordered in Art. 27 of the Firearms Law 36-65.
