First overpass in Boca Chica opened
Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina on Sunday cut the ribbon on an overpass at Las Americas highway in Boca Chica, which will expedite traffic between Santo Domingo and Las Americas Airport (east).
The work built at cost of US$10 million is part of the project to rebuild and expand the La Caleta-Boca Chica span of the Las Americas Highway.
Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo said the work completes the road grid of the East: Boca Chica, Guayacanes- Juan Dolio, La Romana, Punta Cana, Bavaro, Miches and Sabana de La Mar.
He said the overpass will separate local and thru traffic to turn that stretch of the road into an urban motorway, which according to the Presidency’s website, “will result in comfort and harmony for users and security for its inhabitants.”
Senate president Cristina Lizardo, who attended the event, said the next overpass will be at the Technological Institute of Las Americas, in Boca Chica, which she affirms would prevent accidents and deaths.
