Fear over security on the north coast
The Costambar Owners’ Association in Puerto Plata is calling for Police Chief Major General Nelson Peguero Paredes to increase patrols in the area after the murder of 71-year old Belgian Marina Henrietta Belmuls, who was stabbed to death in her apartment in the Holland Park building. A German, Mike Scheider, age 58, who attempted to rescue her, was also injured.
Sandra Falla of the association urged the Medina government to guarantee the security of foreigners who live in Costambar and the more than 5,000 people who visit the beach on weekends. Falla highlighted the rise in crime is putting at risk millions of dollars in investment by more than 1,000 people who own hotels and villas in Costambar and the whole of the North Coast where thousands of tourists come every year to enjoy the beautiful beaches.
