Election observers arrive in the country
The head of the Organization of American States (OAS) Election Observer Mission, former President of Colombia Andres Pastrana is due to arrive in the country today, Tuesday, 10 May 2016, to meet with his team of observers working on the general elections due to take place on Sunday, 15 May 2016.
A press release stated that the mission is made up of 38 experts and international observers who will carry out a detailed analysis of various aspects of the process such as the organization, the technology, the financing, the equality of political participation between men and women, and the media.
During the week, Pastrana will hold high-level meetings with the electoral authorities, the government, political representatives, members of civil society and the diplomatic corps in the country.
On Election Day the mission will send observers to election stations throughout the country.
