Dominicans among hurt in unexplained shootout at major New York City park
New York.- More than 1,600 people, including hundreds of Dominicans, who were enjoying a summer day Saturday evening in Van Cortland Park, located on Broadway and 242nd St. in the Bronx, ran in panic from an intense shootout that left at least three with bullet wounds.
What’s considered the city’s second largest park was the scene where gunfire surprised the large number of people who fled leaving food, drinks, snacks, garments, shoes and other belongings behind.
Around 50 police officers from the 50th Precinct, just 400 meters away from the shooting, arrived to control the melee and assist the injured who were taken to St. Barnabas hospital, some in critical condition.
The cause of the incident has yet to be determined.
