Dominican Republic Golf Travel Exchange to bolster the country’s golf dominance
Santo Domingo.- The third edition of DR Golf, the only platform specialized in marketing the Dominican Republic as a golf destination, aims to strengthen the country as the capital of golf tourism in the Caribbean in 2016.
From Sept. 10 to 15 at Punta Cana’s Barceló Bavaro Palace Deluxe resort in will be held the third edition of the Dominican Republic Golf Travel Exchange 2016, said on Tuesday Teddy De Lara, president of TARGET Marketing Consultants, organizers of the event.
“I am pleased to announce the third version of the Dominican Republic Golf Travel Exchange or DR Golf 2016 edition will definitely mark its solidification in the national tourism calendar and the agenda of all international golf tour operators and suppliers, most of whom have already formalized their registration,” De Lara said.
In this regard he said “for this 2016, DR Golf will feature the participation of more than 100 international delegates from various destinations in the world, including new countries that will join in this edition.”
“Every year DR Golf has been designed with a specific goal and this time the purpose is to consolidate the Dominican Republic as what it is: the Caribbean’s Mecca of golf tourism, and for that we’ve created a program with activities of various kinds that help to strengthen our position,” the executive said.
De Lara said DR Golf is a gathering of professionals, “characterized by an integrative synergy around the golf tourism and the enthusiasm of all international representatives who have already endorsed this event, who like to travel the country, playing in our unrivaled courses and also enjoy Dominican culture.”
DR Golf’s agenda includes a specialized seminar, a workshop among international tour operators and local suppliers; and a three-day golf tournament and will be held at Iberostate Golf (Iberostar Grand Punta Cana in Bavaro), Dye Fore (Casa de Campo in La Romana) and The Lakes golf (Barceló Bavaro Palace Deluxe in Bavaro). It also includes social activities and the opportunity to participate in various excursions.
“DR Golf is an excellent opportunity for the Dominican Republic to showcase its full potential for golf tourism, an increasingly growing and high end consumption niche,” the promoter said.
Between 2014 and 2015 golf tourism growth in the country was estimated at 10%, with over 140,000 golfers who came only to play golf.
De Lara noted that the Dominican Republic boasts over 25 championship golf links, seven of which have a total 86 holes in which you can play along the seashore, “more than what any other Caribbean destination offers and what makes the country the leader and best in the field.”
DR Golf Travel Exchange is held under the auspices of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), the National Hotels and Restaurants Association (ASONAHORES) and the Tourism Ministry.
