Dominican Republic Army halts 400 illegal border crossings daily
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Army daily stops as many as 400 people trying to enter the country illegally at all crossings along the border with Haiti.
Army commander Jose Eugenio Matos on Monday said people are detained in the mountains, in river gorges and ravines, and handed over to the Immigration Agency, to deport them if applicable.
The official also announced that 420 Army soldiers now getting training in public safety will join the police by the end of June when they’ll graduate.
Matos said Defense minister Maximo William Muñoz ordered the measure on Friday.
