Dominican Day Parade in New York
Sunday, August 14th, for the 12th time, the Dominican community will have their annual parade through the streets of New York. At the parade, thousands of delegates of Dominican sports clubs, study clubs, carnival, music, dance and social clubs participate. Also, well-known artists are invited for the parade.
On the side of the road thousands of Dominicans cheer and dance enthusiastically to the catchy music. That is not surprising because about one million Dominicans live in New York. Among them are hundreds of former residents of Sosúa and Cabarete. Many well-known personalities will grace the parade with a visit including the Mayor of New York, Bill the Blassio. The mayor earlier praised the Dominican community in his city for their economic contribution. He spoke of thousands of restaurants, stores, barbershops and production sites which are of great importance for the development of the metropolis. Mayor Ilana Neumann of Sosúa, also travels to New York every year, accompanied by some councilors to enjoy the parade. She will take this opportunity to promote Sosúa as an attractive holiday resort.
