Dominican Army troops kill Haitian as checkpoint stop turns fatal
Santo Domingo.- Army troops on Monday killed a Haitian national after shooting at a pickup truck carrying alleged undocumented immigrants in Guayubín township, northeastern Montecristi province.
The victim was identified as Clerius Filemon, 33, while his compatriot Jimmy Lisime, 25, was reportedly hurt when their vehicle sped away despite that the driver was ordered to stop.
The Army said the soldiers involved in the incident have been detained for investigation.
“We will not allow excesses of any kind. If the investigation determines that they acted contrary to the rules, you can be assured they will be submitted to justice to answer for the occurrence,” the Army Command said in a statement, adding that its Intelligence Dept questioned those involved in the case.
