Doctors announce 3-day nationwide strike starting Tuesday
Santo Domingo.- Dominican medical association (CMD) president Waldo Ariel Suero announced Thursday three days of nationwide walkouts in all public hospitals starting Tuesday, seeking a wage increase and other demands.
The announcement which comes just 19 days after the CMD ended its previous strike, was made during a march to the Public Health Ministry, which the police has cordoned off.
It’s the medical guild’s seventh walkout of public hospitals thus far in 2016.
Public Health minister Altagracia Guzman tried to meet with CMD leaders shortly before 11am in front of Ministry headquarters in the Cristo Rey sector, but hundreds of doctors shouted “not in the street.”
The demanded that the meeting take place inside the Health Ministry offices.
