Customs okays bulk food imports
The Customs Agency (DGA) has announced that the shipment of large boxes and barrels containing food in quantities for individual use will continue to be allowed. These barrels are shipped from the United States by so-called “mudancera” companies.
A DGA communiqué says that the shipments would still be allowed to enter the country tax-free “for humanitarian reasons.” Nevertheless, the DGA announced new measures to reduce the misuse of the barrels for transporting large quantities of items, firearms, munitions, cash, cash, and other articles that violate Dominican laws.
