Construction starts for Santo Domingo’s first Bike Circuit
Santo Domingo.- National District mayor Roberto Salcedo on Thursday broke ground for construction of the of the first stage of the Bike Circuit project along the around 2-kilometer long median on Churchill Av., in the financial center.
Salcedo said the initiative promotes safe cycling and protects the environment, and contributes to the citizens’ health and the economy.
He said the city council works on the project’s topics of public education, establishing bike lanes and install a public bicycle system to link the routes with mass transit.
The first circuit will be eight kilometers long and will run from the Botanical Garden to the Centro de los Heroes (La Feria), through more than 12 shopping malls, three Santo Domingo Metro stations and four universities.
Also present in the inaugural were Justice minister Francisco Dominguez and initiative promoter and journalist José Rafael Sosa, among others.
