Construction on Santo Domingo metro cable system advances
Consorcio Poma-J. Fortuna began the construction of the Santo Domingo metrocable No. 1 station yesterday, Thursday 7 January 2016 on Francisco del Rosario Sanchez Street (Calle 18) in Gualey in Santo Domingo North. Construction of the cable car operation is scheduled for completion by July 2016. Other stations are already under construction are Sabana Perdida (E3), Los Tres Brazos (E2) and Av. Charles de Gaulle (E4), over a 5 km distance.
The cable car will connect the neighborhoods of Los Tres Brazos, Sabana Perdida and La Victoria by air, benefiting an estimated 287,000 inhabitants, 65% of whom do not have their own mode of transport. The government has budgeted US$68.5 million for the construction of the Santo Domingo metrocable system.
The builders have experience of building similar systems in Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and Taiwan.
