CMD complains of illegal medical practitioners
An undetermined number of medical specialists, both local and foreign, are practicing medicine illegally in clinics and hospitals around the country, according to the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) and the Commission for the Illegal Practice of Medicine. CMD president Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero told reporters from El Nacional newspaper that these doctors are practicing medicine in violation of several laws including Public Health Law 42 n 01. He pointed out that many work in private clinics and have been hired by public health centers. They include specialists practicing orthopedics, cardiology, plastic surgery, as well as ear, nose and throat specialists.
Dr. Suero argues that these individuals are not properly accredited or authorized to practice medicine in the Dominican Republic. He called on Public Health Minister Dr. Altagracia Guzman Marcelino to intervene in these cases and prevent them from illegally practicing medicine in the country.
Suero said that the CMD and the Commission for the Illegal Practice of Medicine is granting a 30-day timeframe for these Dominican and foreign doctors to begin correcting their illegal status. He also called upon all doctors in the country to report any case of a Dominican or foreign doctor practicing medicine illegally.
