Carnival Corporation buys Puerto Plata Riu Hotels
Carnival Corporation, which owns the cruise port on the north coast, acquired hotels in the Riu chain operating in the district of the municipality of Maimon, Puerto Plata.
A source close to the negotiations revealed that the end of last week the negotiations between the parties advanced and that it is a matter of days when the acquisition of three hotels of the Riu chain will be made. The buyer is the Carnival Corporation, a company formed by US investors based in Miami, Florida, United States.
Informants who asked not to reveal their names, told the editors of Digital Pregón newspaper that middle managers and directors of these hotels have been already notified of these negotiations, and the Carnival Corporation is evaluating to keep some of them in their respective positions, while others will have to leave their positions, but will receive employee’s benefits.
Initially, the Carnival company had acquired a land to build a large hotel near the district of Maimon, but entered a negotiation with the owners of Riu Hotels, and chose to make a great offer, which was immediately accepted by the Riu Hotels.
It was said that with this arrangement the Carnival Corporation begins the process of converting its terminal in the district of Maimon (Puerto Plata), into a mother port that will allow tourists to stay on shore for several weeks at this destination.
The source that supplied this information to the newspaper puertoplataaldia.com has not revealed the sum involved in this deal, but it reaches several million dollars.
