Cabarete Carnival celebrated Dominican history and culture

PUERTO PLATA – In the last two months, across the whole  country Dominican Carnival 2016 was held, including the resort community of Cabarete, where the history and culture of the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean was shown.

As the conclusion of this cultural and folkloric event hundreds of residents throughout the community gathered to remember and honor the slaves and Indians who paved their way for today.

The event is designed to bring people together, as the carnival is a part of the roots and pride of the Dominican people, it consists of a number of different “groups”, from the establishment of their own personality to the handmade costumes, that takes a year to make, and there is always a story to tell.

This year, the carnival of Cabarete invited 6 troupes with a total of 250 costumes paraded through the streets of Cabarete, where locals and hundreds of tourists could enjoy the only carnival in the country which parade always ends up on the beach in colors, creativity, dance, music, and smiles.

The parade started from a good number of buses parked at the Restaurant Tropicoco, from there  a wide range of groups of people and bands started walking, bringing a festive mood into the town of Cabarete. The parade drew the attention of tourists crossing through the area, stopping to admire the costumes of devils, witches, lions, cemíes and sorcerers.
The troupe from Constance was distinguished by its rich colors, while San Francisco de Macoris was characterized by their dancing and jumping to the beat, putting everyone in a good mood, the groups from Bonao was coming along waving to the curious public, while the tribes of Taimáscaros of Puerto Plata attracted special attention to their masks inspired by Taino designs accompanied by conch shells.

Lions Villa Maria coming from Santo Domingo, did not go unnoticed with their elaborate masks. The carnival parade in Cabarete was closed with the troupes Wizards Del Mambo and Ali Baba of Santo Domingo, with its rhythm and instruments such as trumpets, drums, and other.

Carnival Cabarete was organized by Erick Michael, Letti Moon and DreamBuz Media, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Cabarete and Sosua (ASHRESOCA), and the travel agency “Travel ZizZee “according to the data offered by Adriana Paulino and Anne Grethe Badía Thomassen.
