Belgian murdered, German injured in Puerto Plata
A Belgian lady has been killed by stabbing and a German man also wounded by the attackers on Sunday night, 26 June 2016. The incident happened when two attackers entered her home in the residential area of Costambar to the west of Puerto Plata.
Marina Henrietta Belmuls, aged 71, had been living in the country for several years in the Holland Park building in Costambar. German Maick Schneider, aged 58, came to try and help her and he was also stabbed and is now in a private clinic. The body of Belmuls was taken to the National Forensic Science Institute (INACIF).
The crime scene was visited by members of the Public Prosecution Service, headed up by Judge Victor Manuel Mejia, along with officials from the Police Central Criminal Investigation Department (Dicrim). It appears that the criminals entered through the rear of the apartment and attacked Belmuls as she was sitting at her computer.
Schneider had been living in Costambar for nine years and was wounded multiple times before the attackers escaped across the neighboring golf course, leaving the eight inch murder weapon behind.
The police have arrested three people in connection with the crime and they are 27-year old Haitian Jimmy Pierre, who has been arrested 14 times since 1986, 30-year old Dominican Marino Lauterio Lorenzo and 52-year old Justiniano Familia Vasquez.
