Bani clinic and Cedimat failed
An investigation carried out by the Ministry of Public Health into the handling of the case of Claudio Caamano, who died after being seriously injured in a traffic accident, has led to a prosecution against the Centro Medico Regional Aguasvivas in Bani and the Cedimat in Santo Domingo for violations of patient care services. Caamano died three days after the traffic accident. It took his family six hours to get him admitted to an intensive care unit at the UCE private clinic in Santo Domingo. The UCE was admonished for not opening adequate communication channels with the family.
The case made headlines because of Claudio Caamano’s status as a national hero for his role in the struggle for Dominican democracy in the 1960s. The UCE was the fourth medical facility that he visited before being admitted. The other was the Clinica Abreu in Santo Domingo.
The investigation is published in full in today’s issue of El Dia, Thursday, 7 April 2016.
