Ban on the sale and consumption of conch began on 1 July 2016
The ban on the sale and consumption of conch in the Dominican Republic began on 1 July 2016. The ban is on several species of conch, including Strombus gigas and Lobatus gigas. The ban is enforced annually from 1 July to 31 October, in order to give time for the breeding period.
For seafood lovers, the government recently lifted the four-month annual ban on lobster fishing that had been in effect since 1 March also to protect the reproductive cycle of the species.
