Another public hospital doctors’ strike
The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) has called another strike for tomorrow, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 February 2016, at all public hospitals in demand for an improvement in the services they offer and an increase in doctors’ salaries. This would be the fourth strike spearheaded by Suero since he was elected to preside the medical association.
Union president Waldo Ariel Suero is asking all healthcare staff to answer the call to strike. It will begin at 6 am on Wednesday and end on Thursday affecting more than six million Dominicans who regularly use the public hospitals.
He said that emergency cases and critical patients would still be treated.
The CMD strikes mainly affect the poor and uninsured patients who cannot visit private clinics that continue operating as usual.
