Agency raises US$24.4 from auto tag renewal
Santo Domingo.- The Internal Taxes (DGII) agency on Wednesday said it has raised RD$1.12 billion (US$24.4) from the renewal vehicle plates thus far.
It said 848,805 license plates were renewed as of Wednesday, or 84% of the one million total vehicles.
“The renewal process for the Motor Vehicle Circulation Tax Sticker 2016 closes this Friday, January 8. Internal Revenue reiterates that there will be no extension,” the DGII said.
It warned that once the deadline to renew sticker expires, vehicle owners will have to pay a RD$600 surcharge, adding that traffic cops will levy fines, impound vehicles and other penalties.
