Abusive practices by custom officers when checking luggage at Puerto Plata Airport
PUERTO PLATA – According to several allegations that have been made in recent days, apparently in the General Gregorio Luperon International Airport of Puerto Plata, several employees display disrespectful behavior in the review process of suitcases and luggage of passengers.
According to several posts in social networks, the staff lacks courtesy and humane treatment towards passengers both local and foreign. Tourists are constantly disrespected by customs employees in the review of suitcases, and there have been even thefts of items.
The lady who asked to omit her identity, explained that some employees from the local airport forced her parents who are of very advanced age to undergo checks on their suitcases, a process that lasted more than 15 minutes, in the meantime their luggage was wildly thrown on the ground in front of the shocked dozens of passengers.
Another young woman who became a victim of theft from her luggage, during the review process at the airport of Puerto Plata, says that customs officers mostly abuse many foreigners coming to the country, which in the vast majority are elderly, a situation that causes embarrassment. She is asking the authorities to pay attention to this problem, cause if it continues it will damage the tourism.
