74 cruise ships made stops at Puerto Plata in eight months
Santo Domingo.- Around 74 cruise ships made stops at the Atlantic coast of Puerto Plata in the past eight months and brought 168,000 tourists from various nations, according to figures by the tour operator Carnival Cruise Lines.
Carnival says its ships that made 74 stops at Amber Cove with tourists from October 2015 to May 2016, “contributed significantly to the dynamism of the economy of Puerto Plata.”
It said 66% of the passengers visited the various tourist attractions in and around Puerto Plata, where they stayed for several days while others went to see the area’s numerous historical sites.
Carnival said the tourists mostly visited the beaches, the cable car, the boardwalk, and nearby towns such as Sosua and Cabarete.
The cruise ship giant said as many as four ships per week brought hundreds of thousands of tourists who’ve come to Dominican Republic as their main destination vacation.
Quoted by listin.com.do, Carnival’s data notes that 80% of the visitors come from the US, and 20% from Europe.
