15,000 military and police promotions
PRM presidential candidate Luis Abinader, President Danilo Medina’s leading opponent, has pledged better wage conditions for the military and Police.
Yesterday, Monday, 7 March 2016, President Danilo Medina used the National Budget purse and made the raises effective 27 February 2016. A total of 4,500 members of the Police, 6,120 Army, 2,380 Armada (Navy) and 1,944 Air Force members will benefit.
The promotions include the second in charge of the security for former President Hipolito Mejia of the opposition PRM, Colonel Manuel Antonio Lachapelle de los Santos who was promoted to general. Lachapelle is the son of Manuel Antonio Lachapelle Suero who headed the National Drug Control Agency during Hipolito Mejia’s four-year presidential term.
Colonel Melido Barrios Marte, son of the president of the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic was promoted to general. He is assigned to the Migration Agency.
Another colonel promoted to general is Victor A. Mercedes Cepeda, who was director of the G-2, the Army intelligence unit.
Members of the police and the armed forces are not entitled to vote in the elections, but their family members are.
