X-ray machines down in Cibao International Airport
Airports Authority executive director Marino Collante has announced that the X-ray machines at the Cibao International Airport have been broken since last year, the same situation recently revealed to be affecting Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo.
He said that he has sent two letters to the director of the Customs Agency (DGA), Fernando Fernandez, one in June and then again in December 2014 describing the problems that the situation is causing, as Customs agents have to check luggage by hand, which causes delays.
He said that they have to be repaired quickly and said the situation has also been reported to Aerodom, which manages the Las Americas airport and the administration of the Cibao airport in Santiago.
After the press published the complaints about the broken x ray machines, DGA director Fernandez sent out a press release announcing that new ones will be installed in two weeks’ time. As reported, Customs is awaiting the arrival of 14 new machines at the end of the month following a tender Fernandez says was carried out 10 months ago.
