Women in Movies at the Cinemateca on International Women’s Day

To mark the celebration of International Women’s Day this Sunday, 8 March 2015, DGCine is presenting a selection of movies with women in the starring roles. The films will be shown at the Cinemateca Dominicana behind the Museum of History & Geography in Santo Domingo’s Plaza de la Cultura. Films will be screened from today Thursday, 5 March 2015 to Wednesday, 11 March.

The first film is “De tu ventana a la mia,” a drama by Paula Ortiz starring Maribel Verdu. Verdu has won two Goya awards and the National Cinematography Award in Spain.

The film tells the story of three generations of women in pursuit of love, dignity and happiness. The film is being shown at 7:30pm this evening, Thursday 5 March and it will have a second screening on Sunday, 8 March at 5:30pm

The season will also include a short film, “Del otro lado” by Dominican Yanillys Perez, “Gestacion” by Esteban Ramirez of Costa Rica and “La Vie au Ranch” by Sophie Letourneur and “La Ceremonie” by Claude Chabrol of France, “El sur,” by Victor Erice of Spain and “Carmita,” a biographical documentary by Mexican Israel Cardenas and Dominican Laura Amelia Guzman.
