Wild West in Santo Domingo
Twenty-three-year old Bianka Hazim Madera, who admitted being drunk when she fired shots disrupting traffic at 4am in the early hours of Friday, 20 November 2015 on Av. Gustavo Mejia Ricart near the intersection with Av. Lope de Vega, was arrested on Saturday and questioned at the Naco police station, after reporting to the Honduras neighborhood police station.
A video filmed by passengers in a taxi showing her violent behavior went viral. She is shown shoving a man into a Ford Explorer. The man was identified as Onassis Alexander Cuevas Florian, a relative of the late drug trafficker Rolando Florian. Cuevas is said to be the owner of the gun that Hazim used to fire the shots.
El Dia reports that Cuevas Florian has a police record for trafficking in 69 kilos of cocaine in 2006 and another case for homicide.
The owner of the black Ford Explorer, 33-year Maria del Pilar Cuevas Ferreras, is also under investigation. Cuevas claims to have leased her vehicle.
On Saturday evening, judge Alejandro Vargas ordered three months pre-trial custody for Hazim, accused of illegal use of the gun and blocking traffic, as well as endangering the lives of the people in the vicinity. Her lawyer Jesus Ceballos said he would appeal.
“The criminal action, besides displaying antisocial and criminal behavior by the accused, highlights the damage it causes to society, risking not only her life but also the people who were on the site,” said prosecutor Juan Bautista.
Hazim was identified by the video and comments posted on social networks. She is a former participant for Montecristi province in the Miss Dominican Republic pageant.
