Whole country to be fumigated to fight dengue
Widespread concern about the growing number of deaths from dengue fever and the increase in hospital admissions of patients with the disease has led President Danilo Medina to instruct all ministries and government departments to carry out a nationwide fumigation program on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2015 beginning at 9am.
All public employees will take part in the program, which was announced in the presence of the President during a meeting with all the government Ministers and the mayors of Greater Santo Domingo, Roberto Salcedo and Juan de los Santos.
Health Minister Altagracia Guzman Marcelino made the public announcement together with Agriculture Minister Angel Estevez, Defense Minister Lieutenant General Maximo Munoz Delgado, Civil Defense director Ramon Emilio de Luna Pichirilo and the mayors of Greater Santo Domingo.
The Health Minister said that each Ministry and Department would be placed in charge of a different part of the country, while Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health will act at a national level.
In San Cristobal, the Ministry of Defense will be in charge and in Bonao and Villa Altagracia the program will be implemented in coordination with the National Police.
