Victor Estrella makes Top 50 ranking of ATP
34-year old Dominican tennis player Victor Estrella won the sixth ATP Challenger Tour crown in Morelos, Mexico on Saturday 21 February 2015. This gave him the three points to move up into the elite group of the top 50 tennis players as ranked by the Association of Tennis Professionals. As of today, Monday 23 February he is ranked 48th in the world.
Two weeks after winning the Ecuador Open Quito on clay courts, he went on to win the trophy in Morelos for his sixth ATP Challenger Tour crown. As reported, he needed only 82 minutes to defeat Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia (now ranked 87th) 7-5, 6-4 in Saturday’s final. Dzumhur had won the Milex Open 2015 in Santo Domingo, an event that Estrella had opted out of to recover.
This is the first time that Estrella has made the Top 50 of the Emirates ATP Rankings, becoming the first player to win on both the ATP World Tour and Challenger circuit this year. Last year, four players (Berlocq, Cuevas, Goffin, Rosol) achieved the feat.
