Up to RD$300,000 fine for employers of undocumented workers
Migration director Jose Ricardo Taveras says that after June 2015, companies found hiring illegal immigrants could be fined from RD$50,000 to RD$300,000.
Taveras says that foreigners have been given many facilities to regularize their status under the National Foreigner Legalization Plan. “Anyone who didn’t make the most of the plan cannot complain if fined, because that is where we will start,” said Taveras.
He said that foreigners will not only be deported, but work centers will be visited to establish which companies have illegal workers on their payrolls.
Taveras made these comments during the Dominican Diplomacy Forum that took place 14-16 January 2015 at the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Santo Domingo, attended by leading Dominican diplomats.
Foreigners risk being deported once the deadline for regularizing their status expires.
