Uber is up and running
According to a press release from the Uber transportation network, since operations began in the DR on 3 November 2015, the Uber ride-sharing application has registered 16,600 km, with the longest trip being from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana.
As reported in Diario Libre, in its first week of operation some 12,500 customers have registered with Uber and 140 Dominicans have made the most of this new opportunity for self-employment by offering their services as private drivers.
“The growing number of customers and registered drivers, as well as the numerous positive responses from Dominicans in this first week show that Santo Domingo needed the service and now offers the range of options that our company brings and is appreciated by the people,” said Luis de Uriarte, Uber’s communications director for Mexico and Central America in a company press release.
