Two safes are stolen from Haitian ambassador’s house
SANTO DOMINGO. Five men using uniforms of the EDE-Sur electricity company, penetrated the residence of the Haitian ambassador, and carried away two safes containing valuable documents.
The thieves entered the residence of diplomat Fritz Cineas, which is located in the area of the embassies, on Anacaona Avenue.
The incident occurred approximately at 11:00 yesterday morning. The five men arrived in a pickup truck with the markings of the electricity distribution company, EDE-Sur.
The men beat the security officer, a Second Lieutenant in the Police, and tied and gagged the servant, a Haitian and went up to the 2nd floor, and they took two strong boxes with an undetermined amount of money and documents according to a communiqué from the Haitian ambassador.
The action was confirmed by the Police spokesman, Colonel Jacobo Mateo Moquete on his Twitter account, but he did not offer more details.
The officer on duty at the house of the ambassador told investigators that he allowed the delinquents to enter, because they wore the uniforms and had a pickup truck with the insignia of a well-known electricity company and had all the equipment that they use.
The officer is hospitalized at the National Police Hospital where he is receiving medical attention because he received blows to the head. The ambassador was not in the residence at that time.
The Police reported that technicians from the Scientific Police and from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrived at the residence of ambassador Cineas to collect evidence that could lead them to the arrest of the 5 men.
The amount of money involved has still not been reported or anything regarding the important documents that were in the two safes which were taken by the thieves.
So far they have investigated the servant and the Lieutenant that was on security duty at the time of the theft. The Police issued a report regarding the theft at the residence of the ambassador from Haiti.
