Traffickers again attack guards at Dominican Republic-Haiti border

Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- A Dominican Army sergeant and a civilian were hurt Friday amid a shoot out with traffickers of mostly Haitians into Dominican Republic, just three days after a similar incident when border guards (Cesfront) and Immigration agents tried search several house hiding illegal aliens, leaving six people injured.

Sgt. Gregory Matico Moreta was hurt by shogun pellets to his leg and taken to Dajabon’s public hospital, whereas the civilian Franklin Carrasco was shot in the stomach and back and taken to a clinic in the same border city, according to reports.

The incident took place near the Army post at Palo Blanco, where several Haitians were hidden by alleged traffickers prior to being transported to various towns across the country.

The traffickers reportedly opened fire with makeshift shotguns against several soldiers who arrived at the scene. The agents managed to seize the weapons.
