Tit-for-tat pushes Hispaniola nations toward ties

Santo Domingo.- The Foreign Ministry early Wed. said Dominican Republic “strengthened bilateral relations with Haiti, however, the Haitian government’s behavior has now removed the conditions.”

It tweeted the statement one day after Haiti reported fired it ambassador in Santo Domingo, Daniel Supplice, and Haiti prime minister Evans Paul’s assertion that “it’s difficult ask victims to apologize to their tormentors,” revealing that Port-au-Prince won’t apologize to Santo Domingo on claims that Haitian nationals have been mistreated.

Several reports affirm Supplice’s removal, for his alleged lack of “belligerence” against the Dominican policies on Haitian immigrants.

Port-au-Prince rally

Local media report that around 2,000 protesters marched through several Port-au-Prince streets in solidarity with the Dominicans of Haitian descent and Haitian nationals in the Dominican Republic affected by policies on migrants.
