The real numbers of Dominican exports
El Dinero newspaper analyzes the stats for Dominican exports, and states that while exports are up 5.2% overall, this is because of the effect of the new gold exports. If gold exports are not included in the calculations, national exports are down 0.4% in 2014 and dropped 16% when compared to 2012.
The analysis shows that while traditional exports (sugar, coffee, cacao, tobacco and their byproducts) were up 7.1% compared to 2013, what was sold in 2014 is 42% less than what was exported in 2012.
Gold exports represented 34.7% of national exports according to the Central Bank and CEI-RD statistics.
