The Police open a center for crime control in real time
SD. The Chief of the National Police inaugurated yesterday the new installations of the National Directorate for Preventive Security and the Center for Crime Control in Real Time, which form part of the reform and modernization process of the institution.
As he gave the keynote speech during the inauguration, the Chief of Police, Major General Manuel Castro Castillo, said that with the opening of both strategic components, Dominican society can once again be certain that the Police are advancing, “in an irreversible manner, and at an unstoppable rhythm in the new model of police management.”
Regarding the installations of the National Directorate of Preventive Security, the agency that will be under the command of Brigadier General Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte, he assured the public that the Police have grown in operational capacity, with a greater expansion of the physical plant and preventive responses.
In addition, the facility is provided with more and better human resources, greater logistics and technology in all its extensive operating range, “in accordance with the demanding current circumstances in which crime becomes technical and becomes the principle threat for all nations of the Latin American region.”
After talking about how the new center is the face of the future and at the level of more advanced countries and police agencies, Castro Castillo explained that the Crime Control Center in Real Time, which will be commanded by the Lieutenant Colonel Rafael De los Santos Cespedes, is a modern tool, with the latest generation of technological equipment, which will permit the offices of the Police to carry out immediate analysis of criminal incidents in their first stage in Greater Santo Domingo.
Nonetheless, he said that very soon they will cover all of the national territory “with the objective of monitoring in real-time crime patterns, the identification of potential crimes and, or, dangerous areas, as well as situations which provoke the alteration of public order.”
The Police Chief said that the Center, which was blessed by Chaplain Alejandro Cabrera, will be characterized by a system of Video Walls, composed of twelve 55 inch screens, with five operators during each shift, 24 hours a day, who will handle the equipment permitting a direct connection with the police systems.
Also, he added, it will share a great amount of information between the operators and the top police officers with operational functions, and they can share information in high resolution in order to achieve important advantages in the development of police operations against crime or the alteration of public order in real-time.
“What appeared to be a dream, today is a reality, and will be a fundamental technological platform in the process of providing technology and modernization to the Police,” he indicated.

The Center will permit officers in command positions and police patrols to be able to carry out consultations, within the components that are built into the system, with all the systems of investigation which the institution possesses, principally the system of criminal consultation, which will function as a source of confidential information in order to take decisions before, during and after the operations of prevention and investigation of crime which are carried out. The installations of both components inaugurated are located on the second floor of the Police Headquarters.
