The D.R. Averages 277 Daily Incoming/Outgoing Flights From All Over the World

During the first semester of 2015 the Dominican Republic recorded 50,063 air operations in the country’s international airports. This impressive numbers continue to make the Dominican Republic the most important tourism destination in the Caribbean.

The numbers are broken down as follows: 8,333 monthly operations; 2,000 weekly; 277.7 daily operations; and 11.5 per hour. Punta Cana’s international airport, situated in the country’s easternmost region – and one of the 10 airports in Latin America and the Caribbean – handled 1.6 million tourists during the first semester of this year.

During the same time period in 2014 a total of 48,409 operations through the Las Americas, Punta Cana, La Romana, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Higüero, Catey, Barahona and Arroyo Barril airports, according to statistics presented by the the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute .

The country’s aviation system is certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

During January-June 2015 some 2.5 million tourists traveled through the country’s airports, a healthy 6.5% growth in comparison to the same period in 2014.

Punta Cana’s international airport, on the country’s eastern region, handled approximately 66.8% of all incoming tourists to the country during the January-June 2015 period.

Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport handled 16.6%; Puerto Plata, 9%; Santiago, 3.9%, and La Romana, 2.2%. The remaining 1.5% of international visitors entered the country through the local Isabela and El Catey local airports, revealed figures issued by the country’s Central Bank.
