Students get food poisoning in Luperon Schools
Santo Domingo.- At least 90 students from several schools in the municipality of Luperon in the province of Puerto Plata suffered food poisoning yesterday.
A number of teachers and administrative staff were also affected and the regional public health authorities put the total at 101.
They began to experience symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and convulsions after eating rice, codfish and pigeon peas (guandules) and were taken to the hospitals in Luperon and La Isabela. Most were released after being examined and receiving treatment, while others remain under observation.
The authorities say they will be conducting an investigation.
The schools are located in the communities of Belloso, El Higo and Los Arquies.
