Siamese twins born in Santiago passed away
SANTIAGO. The Siamese twins, who were born joined by the thorax and abdomen six days ago, died very early yesterday at the Doctor Arturo Grullon Regional Children’s Hospital from respiratory complications, reported Doctor Rosa Morel, the director of the hospital.
The babies were born last Tuesday 28 April at the José Maria Cabral y Baez Regional University Hospital, but because of their complicated health situation and in order to give them medical examinations they were transferred to the Arturo Grullon, where they died.
Doctor Morel explained that they arrived at the hospital in stable condition, but starting on the night of 29 April they began to suffer respiratory deficiencies, for which they were given respiratory assistance.
The girls had duplicated hearts, a single liver, two gallbladders and a shared aorta artery.
The babies were the daughters of Marianela Abreu Lopez, 26, who was reported to have improving health after the C – section. The babies were taken to the community of Licey, in the province of La Vega, where they were buried yesterday afternoon.
