Sextuplets born in Villa Mella hospital
SDN. Aracely Guzmán Martinez, a humble 32-year-old woman, a resident in the community of La Victoria, yesterday became the mother of six babies, after a medical team of the Dr. Reynaldo Almanzar Hospital carried out a C – section after 34 weeks of pregnancy.
According to bulletin Num. 1 issued by the hospital, located in the Health City hospital complex in Villa Mejia, North Santo Domingo, the mother of the sextuplets is in stable condition and is recovering after the surgery which was carried out without complications between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The newborns, 3 boys and 3 girls, weigh between 3.5 pounds and 2.2 pounds, and are responding satisfactorily, considering their prematurity and the high risk implicated in a multiple pregnancy of this size.
According to the opinion of the Medical Board, composed of doctors Rafael Draper, Celia Garabito, Roberto Rondon, and Katy Rodriguez, the woman arrived at the hospital last November with a pregnancy of sextuplets at 24 weeks, and was under the care of Doctor Rolbik Urbaez and a team of psychologists who have acted in the handling of the emotional part of this pregnancy both with the woman and her relatives.
“We feel optimistic regarding the evolution of this birth of sextuplets for the next hours and days, and we would like to emphasize our experience of having carried out 53 births of twins in 2014, about 1.3% of more than 4000 births,” indicated the doctors in their report. According to the mother the infants will be named Jefferson, Jeison, Anderson Junior, Ashley Margarita, Aisha Vanessa and Sarai Trinidad Figuereo Guzmán.
The Medical Board will keep the people informed regarding the evolution of the recovery process of the mother and the newborns, through two bulletins per day at 10: 00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
They did not offer any details regarding the father of the sextuplets.
