Seaweed swamp eastern beaches
Santo Domingo.- A reader of outlet El Nuevo Diario on Tuesday complained that authorities have abandoned the beaches at Bavaro, Punta Cana and Boca de Yuma (east) which are being swamped by Sargasso seaweed.
She asked not to use her name and requested the Environment Ministry’s intervention to combat the seaweed along the coasts. “The ministry should take action to recover the beaches this problem faced by coastal communities” of La Altagracia province.”
“The difference is that steps are being taken to counter this phenomenon in the other beaches, which is contrary to what´s happening in Boca de Yuma´s beaches. They are being damaging and it´s also a tourist spot and have left them abandoned.”
