Santiago and Puerto Plata get ready for 911
According to the Deputy Minister of the Presidency and 911 spokeswoman Zoraima Cuello, a total of 2,850 security cameras will be installed in strategic places in Puerto Plata and Santiago provinces as part of the 911 Emergency and Security System. The plan is to have the system up and running later this year.
Cuello added that there would be 10 ambulances and 80 motorbike ambulances, 350 members of staff in the area of operations, dispatchers and management and 1,140 additional police officers. The 911 center will be based at the former site of the Cibao airport on Bartolome Colon Avenue.
The plan is to have 1,799 cameras in Santiago and 1,051 in Puerto Plata but the main problem will be the lack of continuous power to operate them, so they are actively seeking sponsorship to prevent this problem.
