Cattle thieves, which so far in 2015 have dismembered over 700 cows on farms in the eastern region, leaving millions in losses to farmers, changed the way to load the stolen cattle, using SUVs to evade the police chase.
Cattle thefts remain uneasy to producers who see their farm animals vanish, while denouncing lack of justice and poor police chase in the fields of cities like Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Higuey, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris, Sabana de la Mar, Miches, El Valle and other towns in the area.
The latest theft of cattle affected the livestock Pedro Munoz Mata Palacio, the thieves quartered about four dairy cows, which left abandoned on a highway in Batey Consuelito in the town Consuelo of San Pedro de Macoris. A police unit pursued robbers’ jeep at dawn yesterday, and arrested a villain.
Breeders’ associations of Miches, El Seibo, Sabana de la Mar, El Valle, Hato Mayor and San Pedro de Macoris, have warned about an organized criminal band with apparent support of military authorities, which exclude cattle to sell in markets and butcher shops of the region. Only in Hato Mayor, rustlers have stolen more than 200 dairy cows, they are dismembered in the same pastures.
